Orion in the SkyA Poem by Philip GaberI got high, I looked to the sky I saw my mother cry And the sun refused to shine. The skies turned black And it began to snow. I made love to a girl named Orion. I looked in her eyes, and I saw stars shining. I kissed her shin and grinned. Tears rolled off her chin And moistened her breasts. I closed my eyes And I was blinded by the light. I saw smiling children flying High above the clouds, Chasing rainbows, dancing on the moon. They whispered my name, Offered me sweet rain and Chocolate stars, which are by far My favorite indulgence. I was taken by the hand Lightly sprinkled with dust from the land. I was drowsy, but I could stand. The children formed a circle around me And began to sing. “A bird’s wing in a sling never Feeling a thing as long as it is Worshipping.” I watched the moon, It looked like a giant beach ball In the sky. I asked them why, They just sighed. They were busy feeling dizzy And thirsting for more. One eye on the door, One eye on the score. I was floating through space, Watching my face glancing At a foreign place. Images that flash across the sky; Colored balloons, A mile-long parade, Apples in the shade. Frowning clowns, deserted towns. Kisses to passersby, And Orion, my love Saying goodbye to her High-flying guy. © 2026 Philip Gaber |
