War

I made this thinking about war veterans and what they've been through. I hope you like it.

I turn away from the scene of death and decay
Knowing that tomorrow will be a better day
Away from this world of blood and fear
Easily bringing me to tears
Forever haunted by the ghosts of my past
Whenever I see the flag at half-mast

i love the third and fourth lines. Beautiful simple work!

I especially liked your last lines, they really work well together. The only one that felt awkward to me was the fourth line, both in the word choice (easily bringing just feels dull in contrast to what 'could' be here) and in how much shorter it is than the prior line.

This is wonderful. I imagine a veteran reading this, and a smile comes to his face, accompanied by tears in his eyes.
It's sad, and possibly how they feel, and to have someone get that would make anyone feel not quite so alone in their terror of the past.
