Mommy, Daddy,
Can't we have a laugh?
Daddy, Mommy
Can't you share a kiss?
Like you used to do,
When I was little,
And giggled and turned my head
Can't we watch TV,
Or play a board game?
Like we used to,
When life at home wasn't going downhill
And I didn't cry
When I didn't see the fights,
Or hear the yelling
Daddy, sit with me in the floor
Deal me cards, and let me win
Mommy, laugh and watch
Like we used to all do
Together
When all was well,
And we were happy
Mommy, braid my hair
As you and daddy talk about vacation
And how much fun we'll have
Just laying on the beach
And playing in the sand
Ice cream dripping from our faces
And a big, genuine smile
I cry and yell and scream
I curse and ask why can't those times come back
But happiness like that,
It only lives in photographs
Stored in the top of the closet
To be forgotten in time
It's only a memory, A memory, A memory
