Questions I have about seeing an estranged loved one again

It's been so long since
I've seen you…

If I saw you in a crowd would I recognize you

If I heard your voice across a room would I know it's you

If we ran into each other would I know what to say or would I fumble to find the words

Would i act casual or would I be nervous

Would i seem needy if I said I miss you

Would you greet me warmly or not have time for me

Would you acknowledge me or pretend you didn't see me

Would we, could we, start talking and remove some of the distance between us

Would you want to become close with me again

Would i be able to handle it if you rejected me

I had to take a look at your profile and read of your destructive marriage. I hope this poem is not about the possibility of reuniting with that person. Anyhow, very well written. Line by line you build upon the anxiety of possibilities, each line a fresh worry or a new hope. This poem speaks very strongly to me, I have lived it. I have encountered, after many years, someone I loved and it was a punch in the gut.

No this is not about my ex...it's about my son who has decided to alienate me from his life. I don't know why which causes me extreme frustration. Maybe some day he will explain it to me and perhaps allow me the opportunity to make things right.

Thank you. Writing helps me process, cope and release some of the "darkness" that eclipses my existence. Not to say i am bitter, negative or depressed. I have endured way too much heartbreak from people I love. I will probably never understand but I am doing my best to to stay positive. It absolutely baffles my mind how some people can "love" with restrictions, limitations and conditions. That's not how I love.

These questions and more dance around in my mind. I would like to think I would handle the encounter, if it should happen, with poise and dignity. But my feelings are so strong for this person I will probably be unable to maintain my composure.
