Come Back Jean-Louis

Come Back Jean-Louis

A Poem by FlatDaddy
"

Dedicated to Jack Kerouac, bless him, gone way too soon. Read this with a beat and speed up a little at the end. Yeah!

"

Got the beat, got the rythym, got the beat,

Got the rythym to the road, got the beat,

Then a tsch, t... t... tschhhhhh --

With a pow, k-pow, k-pow!

An' a flat tire, an old tire,

A bal-d-bal-d-bald, tire with a hole

With a nail

With a tsch, t... t... tschhhhhh,

And the air hits the air

Like a cymbal and the tire

Hits the road with a pl-t-pl-t-pl --

And the brass comes in with a

Hub cap r i i i n g on the road --

And the brushes of the bushes

Give a tsch, t...  t...  tschhhhhh.

Then the jackajackajacka hear the jack

And the oomp-t-oomp-t-oomp-tah --

As the wheel comes down

And the s q u e a l of the tire

On the road, it's a road it's a road, it's a

Rythym, got the rythym of the road, it's a

Road, got the rythym of the road, it's a

Road, got the road got the rythym got the road

Got the beat got the road got the beat got the road

Got the beat got the road got the beat

Yeah.

Another performance piece; if you do it, do it with style, swagger a little with a bit of song. Dig it, like Jack!

I personally have never been able to get performance poetry down, so I had to do a little bit of research and watch a few videos to see how it would work. After that, I can firmly say that this piece blends in well with the genre. I will be honest and admit I am having a bit of a hard time wrapping my brain around it, so I'm sure I'll need to read it a few more times, but that is more testament to me needing to learn something new as opposed to your ability or skill.

Yeah, I'd like to hear this one live. I know it's about Kerouac, but it made me remember my teen years and all the bad tires I sped around on. I'd say you've got the rhythm of the road down.

I loved this. I didn't recite it out loud but I heard the rhythm in my head while I was reading. I bet it's even better when it's spoken. The tsch... thing was amazing! Definitely meant to be read out loud, and the rhythm is so effortless. Reminds me a bit of the beat poets!

Thanks. Do read it aloud, and make sure to increase your tempo at the end as the car takes off. Jean.. read more
