Small HouseA Poem by Dominik DriteAn ABAB poem that serves as an ode to my partner and future wife, and the future we are looking forward to experiencing together.Small House By Dominik Drite You are my comfort when I wake. I move my head to the side, And listen to the breaths you take, And the ones you sigh. Your hair is a long and dark mess, Your eyes are so serene, And I try so hard to express How you make me dream. Every night, I see a small house And beyond the trees, a lake. I see you, my beautiful spouse, And all the things we make. The kitchen smells like spices, Berries, greens, and lemon sour, Bowls of grapes and apple slices, And lots of fluffy flour. The living room is cozy, A throw blanket on the couch, Our birds are ever nosy, And pillows sit in a slouch. The bedroom is warmly lit, A heavy blanket covers the bed, A closet of clothes for every fit, And books we’ve already read. The porch is dark with rain, A brown finch takes flight, Many flowers and wolfsbane, Make a heavenly sight. Many unsightly hauntings Cloud my sleepy mind, Apparitions and tauntings, And memories unkind. But this comforting dream I see, Full of laughter and color, Is a vision so lovely, I can think of no other. © 2025 Dominik DriteAuthor's Note
