Stretch Marks

Columns of lustrous shine
pulled taught,
each one like a mermaid's purse:
stretched so thin,
you can see my baby sharks
if you hold me
against the light

Author's Note

A "mermaid's purse" is an egg casing that surrounds the fertilized eggs of a few types of sharks. When held up to the light, you can see the baby shark through the thin casing.

Thanks, I liked the picture too. I remember being enthralled when I was younger and first learned of and saw a mermaid's purse held against a light. I suppose that's why it came to mind ☺
