'til once more the songbirds sing

'til once more the songbirds sing

A Poem by Gee
"

The onset of winter

"
Winter came not meek nor mild
but with hoare frosted, bellowed breath
that coated all with thin laid ice
sending autumn to her death.

Whilst a waning sun, by summer spent,
rises barely roof ridge high
as armadas of grey galleons
sail 'cross an ever darkening sky.

And fallow fields neath purest white
trees petrified and bare,
are an epitaph to a season lost
and the beauty she did share.

I inward say, " farewell for now,
farewell 'til the birth of spring,
let me slumber deep, silently,
'til once more the songbirds sing"

They say a deep winter is coming for the entire planet. (due to planetary axis tilt overr huge amounts of time, the world gets cold and then warm and then in the middle.... and back again)

Are you not glad that we die so young? The catastrophes, we are lucky to live and die during the extinction events.

I am sad that we die so young. Over such a short timeline we can never appreciate the meaning of deep time. It's like trying to describe a cheetah from a donkey fart. this might sound weird but.... I really love that about this place. No one is free until they are forgotten. Nothing is set in stone before it is remembrance.

Welcome to hell Gee. You've been here for a really long time already... it's nice to see a fellow.

Gee, your poem is written in such beautiful, classical language that it becomes a treasured gift in itself. Vivid stark and wintry imagery chills as it should. Beautiful rhyme, cadence, alliteration, metaphor. All summed up in a truly great write my friend.

A beautiful poem about the change of season. Descriptive and vivid images and allegories that paint a clear picture. Very nice.

I greatly enjoy your use of language here! I can feel the connection to an earlier time, when words were valued in a different way than they are now. Really lovely.

Thanks for dropping by Ken, hope you are well.
A warm feeling in this poem, even though you show us winter blowing in with force "as armadas of grey galleons", but there is always change, and that is the know that spring will bring forth sweet breezes, color and scents soon ; until then sleep well and sweet dreams....
Nice write Gee,
