'til once more the songbirds sing

'til once more the songbirds sing

A Poem by Gee
"

The onset of winter

"
Winter came not meek nor mild
but with hoare frosted, bellowed breath
that coated all with thin laid ice
sending autumn to her death.

Whilst a waning sun, by summer spent,
rises barely roof ridge high
as armadas of grey galleons
sail 'cross an ever darkening sky.

And fallow fields neath purest white
trees petrified and bare,
are an epitaph to a season lost
and the beauty she did share.

I inward say, " farewell for now,
farewell 'til the birth of spring,
let me slumber deep, silently,
'til once more the songbirds sing"

Such a lyrical write, Gee. Winter pushes Autumn out the door, but Spring will be here before you know it. Your words flow easily and have the feel of old time poetry. Really wonderful. Lydi**

fall is my favorite time
the season of rewards earned by the toils of spring and summer
always look to the first frost then a freeze that shocks!
it keeps me in line!

It's snowed in Utah, no snow on Mt. Fuji still, waiting for news elsewhere but there seems to be an undecisiveness about wintering the world over. But hibernation is calling hopefully much better than imposed lockdowns and restrictions.

Lockdown or hibernation, hmmmm, think I'll take the latter.
Thanks Freds
This time of the year always represents to me a change. Like a caterpillar to butterfly these are a time of reflection in sleep. Until the spring awakens us with wings, and our evolution. So I will slumber till the snow melts. A nice poem Gee. Thank you for sharing.

Was my pleasure my friend and you are welcome.
That was really nice. The changing of the seasons is always something to celebrate and I feel this poem does just that. Beautifull done.

:-) Yes it very much is.
Classically gorgeous, so beautiful. Armadas of cloudships is a wonderful image, sailing across the darkening sky, conquering. I love the grammatical inversion in I inward say, " farewell for now, it is very John Milton (and that is a wonderful thing in my mind)

Dear Gee, I felt a little shiver as I read these lines. You have some awesome imagery here and the whole write transported me into a place I am reluctant to go. Roll on spring and all she brings.Love your poem. Hope all is well. We are back in Brixham for a week. All the best.

Great rhyme, flow and meter, Gee. A poem full of fine imagery with that armada of galleons a particular standout for me. Very original. Never experienced a northern hemisphere winter myself so your words paint me a picture of just how bleak they can be and why the coming of Spring is always long awaited. A well constructed musical piece, my friend.
