Where Is He?

Where Is He?

A Poem by George Barton

The world around me is dark
The sun has gone down
And I take this time to walk
No one out to judge
No one to interrupt
I take each step at a time
Each one silently echoes into the night
It seems to be the only sound
And it’s relaxing
I begin to think
The day was so exhausting and rough...
Seems like every day now...
I brush my hand across a brick wall
I keep walking slowly down the sidewalk
I smile, realizing what a beautiful night it is
Why can’t every day be like tonight?
I sigh
I stop walking
My hand slowly falls and rests at my side
The shadows surround me
Happiness swirls around me
I can’t help but smile
I can see myself...
Making people smile and laugh
Being who I want to be
It’s so beautiful...
I reach out...
I want to be him...
And it all disappears...
A tear slips down my face
“Come back,” I whisper...
