Listening to Bruce

Listening to Bruce

A Poem by Gomer LePoet
"

A tribute on the music of the great country/rock/pop/jazz and yes even hip-hop, pianist, Bruce Hornsby

Listening To Bruce

How many times, has it been now,

after searching high and low, somehow,

when I wanted something fresh and new,

I always seems, not surprisingly, to return to you

with Every little kiss, he first got my attention,

with southern country kind of jazzed, no, not a new invention,

That's just the way it is, and that's the way it was,

sounded really cool, specially if you had a buzz

He took us down The spirit trail, he left us in the Hot house,

The changes from here, to there, was like from man to mouse,

King of the hill was his special plan, and used his Spider fingers,

he crawled along the Great divide, carefully he lingers

he was shaking his Shadow hand, tickling ivory to Swan song,

now we have barely touched the surface, still he moves along,

cruising thru the Funhouse, dark as night, searching for his crown,

Listening to Bruce, never gets old, at least not In this town

Author's Note

this guy has a long history of music. Bruce and Range had a country sound while his later stuff went more pop sounding, and his latest music has a lot of hip-hop sounds and the very last release is all pure jazz intrumentals. He holds a masters degree in jazz from U of Miami Fl. the picture used is from his double album spirit trail - great music in this one.

Again, i dunno much of Bruce Hornsby and the Range stuff (apart from That's Just The Way It Is) but -again!- the last 2 verses were brilliant to read. And -again!!- they look as though they're spiced and spliced with lyrics or titles. I liked it. Seems more a tribute to him, tho i got the impression when you said it was a 'parody' that you intended to sort of mock...!

It sounds like Bruce would be a welcomed addition, to any town. I enjoyed the poem very much, because I know from experience, people like Bruce may come, only, once in a lifetime. They don't just have hearts of music, they are the heart of music. Anything that they are away from music pales in the glory of their music. I agree that it is hard for men to express these lovely sentiments, among each other, at times; but if Bruce is real, I hope that you find a moment to share this poem with him. An excellent tribute to an excellent and inspiring musician!

i love words shared from the heart without reguards to what someone else will think - straight heart talk is so hard to find from male poets -- great job on this

Great write!
This is one of your better pieces. I particularly enjoyed the first stanza.
There was an air of acceptance, thoughtfulness, and pondering.
Loved how it made me feel when I was reading it.
Kudos to you for this one!
