Go Ahead, Ask Me

I was walking down the street just the other day,

when this gentleman stopped me right dead in my tracks.

he said he was wondering if he could inquire

how the world got this way?

I told him this was quite a complicated question.

There were so many factors involved, it was impossible.

Let me grab my straw hat and dancing cane.

Darfishy! Some music please. Maybe some razz matazz piano.

1 2 3 4

If you wanna know what times it is,

go ahead and ask me.

If you needed to know what day it was,

I would most surely reply.

Are you curious about stocks and bonds,

you may certainly inquire.

but the condition of this world,

please don't ask me why.

If you wanna know who sang that song,

go ahead and ask me.

If you want directions to the moon,

I'll point it out for you.

If you need to know the atomic weight,

of a cosmic ray bombarding .

But the conditions of this world,

nary one single clue have I.

So please don't ask me why.

Things just seemed to be more simple in the past,

but we had to make a change, we knew it wouldn't last.

If you wanna know the confetior',

go ahead and ask me.

I'll most gladly sing it for you,

you just pick the key.

Where to find a grocery store,

on South highway 98.

just how the world got this way,

I'm totally clueless.

But go ahead and ask me why

yes go ahead, ask me.

I can hear the music. Such a fun song, I want to sing along. Like some of your other writings, the subject matter is serious, with such a big question. How did the world get this way? I like the lines:
"Things just seemed to be more simple in the past,
but we had to make a change, we knew it wouldn't last."

How did the world get this way? People can't really be so much different, from days gone by. The earth is still the same. Maybe, it's something that has been building and building, since man was introduced to this world! I enjoyed your song and it made me wonder who I could ask.

I like the lyrics, especially, how did the world get this way? I recall when I made a statement to the young man that shined shoes at the law firm where I used to work. I said " John, the world is in a mess", without blinking an eye, He said, "no it's the people in it". So true unless it is an act of GOD.

Is that a direct request? :)

These lyrics actually had an exceptional flow to it, I loved that. The only thing that threw me off toward the end was a misspell of "gladly." But that's not biggy! Upbeat, but slightly sobering as the message sinks in. How did the world get the way it is?
