Superstar

Superstar

A Poem by Gomer LePoet
"

rise and fall

"

Superstar

ascent

rock n' roll god

leather pants

and smokin hot guitar

hair to his knees

or nowhere at all

and convertible car

snaps his fingers

expecting special service

when he steps to the bar

flashy glasses

sucking on a stogie

gold chains shinning like a star

everybody knows me

perfect face

no hint of a scar

step out into the spotlight

a blink and a nod

the crowd screaming yes they are

explosions of light

huge amps loud thunder

like sounds of war

everyone hail

the Prince of Rock

arena superstar

descent

old band leader

now showing a little gut

wrinkled tired face

still with the leather pants

and gold chains

only now IB by the case

fewer chants these days

most don't even know

off on a different race

fingers getting slower now

hard to do the licks

thoughts of switching to bass

voice cracks sooner now

the range is gone

no longer moves with grace

is it time to give it up

time to hang it on the wall

cannot keep up with this pace

pretty smiling faces

no longer give a wink

no long interest not even a trace

where did it all go

where are the years

another Superstar takes your place
