True friends only come along once in a while

 

True Friend

yes it is with heavy heart, that I write these lines

I have promised you my friendship for all time

my words seem to get choked up, inside life's vines

bittersweet like a jigger of salt and lime

things somehow seemed, to get out of hand

we became closer than was ever intended

I need to show you respect, I know you understand

we know neither of us ever ever pretended

it is time for me to step aside, don't mean just walk away

but take up my proper spot in the background

give to you my support, solidify my feet of clay

our hearts once touched now forever bound

this inner strength, somehow has come along

my selfish heart no longer has to pretend

our love for each other, the words of a true love song

I now can stand, and say I am your True Friend

This is so touching Gomer, TRUE FRIENDS are hard to come by. But when you find that one, it is so special, such a great and special relationship. I'm sure this friend you write about understands, but I think it would be very hard, from my experience.
But this is such a great poem, so touching, so much love. Hince the old saying, "if you love someone, let them go"
Im not sure I really like that saying. lol
But I love this poem.
I think this shall now become my favorite
