The Music Stops

The Music Stops

A Poem by Gomer LePoet
"

it takes two to tango

"

The music stops

in the background I can hear the tune

a melody that makes my mind wander

it's too bad but I find that all too soon

my knees and feet begin to flounder

the beat has faded and I struggle

trying to dance when the music stops

the words were plain so close I snuggle

then suddenly spinning like tiny tops

did I forget to insert another dollar

was the plug accidently pulled loose

it's like someone grabbed my by the collar

crawl back into my hole like a recluse

I try to remember the magic words

the ones that made the music play

musical notes from singing birds

but just like that they fade away

a constant mystery how it comes and goes

maybe it's my imagination sprinkling mystic drops

but why do I seem to stand on the tips of my toes

like a ballerino after the music stops

I like music. It allow my mind to rest and think of something good. Give me some Peter, Paul and Mary music to make me feel good. Give me a Leonard Cohen or Johnny Cash to make me write poetry. A outstanding poem. I like the feel and emotion of your words. A Edwin Starr song "War" can make me feel strength and hope for a better day. Thank you for your positive poetry,.

I liked how it began, but by the second verse it was too much rhyme, too little meaning. I kept picturing someone musically challenged, trying to keep the beat, and I don't think that was what you meant, was it!
However, I did like the end, it gave off a feeling of ... childhood, for some odd reason!

I feel the same, the beat, the music has stopped but in a since I am keeping it alive in my heart as long as I can.
Guess you can say the beat goes on in my heart.

it certainly does take two...but sometimes we can just let the music flow inside of us and be brave enough to dance wildly alone - on the dance floor of life.
