Empty Slate

Empty Slate

A Poem by Gomer LePoet

Empty Slate

I try to write new thoughts or rhymes

but nothing seems to come to mind

the stain of her lipstick on the half-filled glass

her setting on the table unused

the dinner I had planned sits now

burnt into the casserole dish

gravy stains running down the stove

the neon light flickering shadows on the wall

silhouettes of the two of us dancing

no longer to appear

now emptiness has filled the room

and the needle on the phonograph

has stuck repeating the same words

I found this write kind of sad as well, I really enjoyed this write. it's hard to believe that some one still knows what a phonograph is. Well done Gomer.

I want to know the words it's repeating! Would you be opposed to ending the piece with that? You're writing is very charismatic and draws me in. I admire that a great deal.

I know the feeling Gomer. Beleive it or not. Except my her would be a him. A very sadden, heartwrenching, poem. Sure makes the reader feel the words.
Maybe if you think of some good times together the words would come. Just a thought.
As for the phonograph, well I do know what they are, but not old enough to have had one. lol
This one has touched me deeply for some reason.
