Happy New Year Mankind

Mankind, Man. Woman. the human species

this is a celebration for us

another new year in the dream to be Human

I wonder when the species became cognizant

of his surroundings enough to share thoughts

with another of his brethren

thoughts about a "New Year"

I'm sure by the time they could communicate

these thoughts he was well enough aware

that the cycle of life had a measured existence

he knew by so many moons passing by

by the direction of the sun in the sky

maybe depending on the climate conditions

he could tell by the movement of

animals, birds, sea life

but he knew all right

that is how he knew when to plant the crop

when to harvest the crop

when to stock for the cold unproductive time

so at that point when he could communicate

the thoughts of a "New Year" to another

did they have a toast

did they throw down some hooch

did they salute each other

did they hug

did they shake hands

did they blow on noise makers of their time

did they yell "Happy New Year"

well for all of them and for all of us

for all of mankind

I wanna yell

"Happy New Year"
