My Beloved Family

My Beloved Family

A Poem by Gregoria Ahmed

My Beloved Family,

We are bound together not only by blood but by something greater-the shared love and connection that make us who we are. Family is a blessing, yet it comes with challenges. Together, we have seen struggles, misunderstandings, and moments of hurt. But today, I want to share a message of encouragement, growth, and unity.

As a family, we must remember that love does not mean enabling each other's harmful decisions or sacrificing our well-being to protect someone from the consequences of their actions. Each of us has choices to make, and with those choices come responsibility. If someone willingly walks a path that harms themselves or others, they must understand that boundaries are necessary. Setting boundaries is not rejection; it is self-preservation. It is an act of love "for ourselves and for them" because true love does not stand idle in the face of destruction.

We each have the power to say "no" when something hinders our growth, health, or peace. Saying "no" is not selfish; it is an affirmation of our priorities and values. We are not obligated to carry burdens that are not ours unless it is a true and meaningful responsibility. And when faced with conflicting responsibilities, we must pause and reflect on our priorities. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup-caring for yourself enables you to care for others more genuinely.

For those of us with the heart to help, do so within your means. Do not stretch yourself so thin that you lose sight of your own health and happiness. Helping is noble, but it should not come at the cost of your well-being. And if others cannot see your kindness, if they respond with bitterness or entitlement, recognize that their words reflect their own heart, not yours. Stay steadfast in your integrity, and let their judgments pass like the wind.

Above all, let us remember that family is a choice we make every day- not just to be together, but to uplift one another, to respect one another, and to hold each other accountable. We are here to build each other up, not to enable harm or diminish ourselves. Let love guide us, and let our hearts stay open to growth, understanding, and renewal.

Thank you for listening. Together, we can be better-for ourselves and for each other.

I had written this for my families and I wanted to keep it in writer's cafe, thinking it may be useful for those that are not able to have it in words what they really feel like sharing to their own families
