The light I trustedA Poem by Webster
From the darkest room lit the brightest light
In a corner resting just within sight. I let it grow brighter, I let it in Soon my whole world was no longer dim. This was different; life wasn't dark anymore. Though shadows lingered, they faded in the glow. A different side, a different face When I said I love you, forever and always. Joy and bliss, with a few tears between, Nothing to fear, just a kiss to keep clean. But then came the day when darkness returned, Cries in my slumber made my stomach churn. I feared that dream, though only a thought, Never to come true, I prayed it would not. Dreams are but feelings and memories resisted That visit at night when all feels twisted. I moved ahead, fear at the edge of my sight, Tempted to look, to leap from that height. Stay calm, don’t tremble, it’s only anxiety; Love wouldn’t break what filled my empty. Then came a day I was happy again No trembling in sight, no fear, no pretend. But all of it shattered when love so pure Proved me wrong, its weakness allure. Back into darkness I came crashing down, Love’s tender touch, love’s thorny crown. Where am I again? Why am I here, When I risked it all for love’s promised cure? © 2026 Webster |
