Soft Fractures

Soft Fractures

A Poem by Grace
"

Emotions poured into one, defining the sleepless nights.

"
They think they don’t need reassurance, but the truth is they love in a way that quietly begs for certainty.
Not loudly. Not dramatically. Just deeply.
Once someone matters to them, that person settles into their mind completely. Conversations replay for hours. Small details become permanent. Replies are waited for like little emotional lifelines. They imagine moments before they happen and hold onto things most people would’ve forgotten by morning.
And maybe that’s why distance hurts them so much.
Because while everyone else continues their day normally, they’re emotionally sitting beside the connection, protecting it carefully in their mind like something fragile that could disappear if handled wrong.
They overthink everything.
Tone changes. Dry replies. Delayed messages. Energy shifts. Silence.
They notice all of it, even when they wish they didn’t. And the hardest part is never knowing whether they’re “too sensitive” or whether their feelings are warning them that something is slowly changing.
They crave reassurance, but hate feeling needy.
So instead of asking for comfort directly, they stay quiet and secretly hope someone notices the sadness hiding underneath the silence. Sometimes they wish people would insist on understanding them instead of waiting for them to explain why they pulled away.
More than loneliness, they fear being replaceable.
The idea that someone they gave pieces of themselves to could slowly begin treating them like an option while they still see that person as home… it breaks something inside them. Yet even when leaving would protect them, attachment keeps them standing still because pain becomes familiar, and familiar things are hard to walk away from.
They miss people while still talking to them.
They mourn energy shifts before anything officially ends.
They walk on eggshells after conflict because they’re terrified things will never feel the same again.
What they want is simple, even if their emotions aren’t.
Softness. Consistency. Effort that feels natural.
To feel chosen without competing for it.
Conversations that don’t leave them emptier afterward.
And underneath all the overthinking, attachment, fear, and emotional intensity…
they’re just someone who wants to feel deeply loved without constantly questioning whether the feeling is mutual.
