Oh my. You have described perfectly what it feels like when you've experienced abuse. After two abusive marriages, I was fortunate enough to return to a place that is exactly what you described. I found not only safety, but freedom. If this poem is about you, know that no situation is hopeless. You can be safe, unafraid, and free. If it is about someone close to you, encourage them to get help. These are incredibly brave words. Thank you for writing them.
