Caveat

Caveat

A Poem by Green
"

"
The first thing you study
in engineering
are the famous failures,
the times
where things went wrong.
May we never forget
that we are not really gods
of our own making.

'Caveat' - That's a great word.

This makes perfect sense...

We learn by previous mistakes made. Hopefully they are the mistakes of others rather than our own. Meaningful brevity here Green. Succinct and honest.

There is a mindset among us that says, "let's try this and see what happens." But we have had a tendency from the beginning to be warned and take a bite anyway. enjoyed the read - carl

Euler's number and figuring out Laplace changed my life. I'm still pretty stupid but, I know exactly why I am stupid now. I hope you become a chemical engineer and work for merk (not an insult).

And to put a poetic side to your piece, you should also be studying the world's worst poetry, Scotland's own William Mcmomagle, who wrote of the Tay Bridge disaster in Scotland. J8st read it and you'll see why he was given the world's worst poetry moniker. He makes Doctor Seuss look like a professor in comparison! 😀
But back to your point, it does make sense to check how not to do it before learning how to do it. Isn't there some ancient law about engineers having to stand under bridges as the keystone is put in place? Or did i make that up? Either way, it should be a law and that would be a mark of quality in itself.

Failure by far is the greatest teacher and developer of character. We would be wise to pay heed. Most engaging write 🕊️🙏🏻

My dad was an engineer and I heard many stories of when things went wrong. Guess he was not a god.
He also never considered himself that important...although Texaco considered him one of their best engineers...
Ego can destroy worse than the failures.

This feels true in the bones. We learn more from collapse than from success, and the ending refuses the ego.

About
I'm living in the good ol' south of the US of A. Professionally, I'm an engineer and I guess that means I'm supposed to know things. I don't always. I write because I can, and because I can write word.. more..
