Deep Woods

Deep Woods

Along the morning path I walked,
where fog held heavy in the air;
early light awakened, thin and pale,
then swelled to sense ethereal,
giving life to lucid ground
before my foot.

Farther on, the view withdrew,
as the road curved out of sight,
toward darkness bent and framed.

These paths we trod into dark, deep woods,
in search of that which can’t be named,
by obscure resolve still onward lured,
while sense and reason fall to haze,
and darkness, strangely, grows to flame.
