CanalTown Roasters: Wake up Call

CanalTown Roasters: Wake up Call

A Poem by Grumpie
"

Back to flow, oh where will I go? Imperfect perfections to share tonight, thank you for your care, it's always a delight!

"

Upon my stay in this strange flower city,

I made a friend with a sunbeam lassie.

I walk to the coffee shop, and on my arrival,

“Ah! Here my friend, it has been awhile!”

My Dear Amie, with bright personality,

Canaltown Roasters has the community.

My art on the walls, I think it rather sweet,

To have, with the locals, an open seat.

Thirty-minutes late to my last shift of work,

I sit and sip and contemplate my book.

For children, for me? I now must leave,

My time in Rochester is done, I believe.

Off I go, on my merry way, I have to hold

A smile in place- the bakery! Low and behold-

A testing space, to learn patience and fortitude.

Warning, keep your health with a steep attitude.

Without guard on the heart and soul,

Money mongers will take their toll.

Leaving creatives in dust with no way out,

Depressed, and stressed, their smile a pout.

Not me! Not I, so I tell them all, “Goodbye!”

Back to the town nestled in the leaves,

I greet the balloons with steady ease.

My brother visits with little to say,

But I’m thankful for presence, in his way.

Now I am tired, not much to relay.

Working on my meter all of the day.

In my head I rhythm and count to song,

Reading Hiawatha, with Canterbury along.

To master this craft I must have patience,

Fortitude, persistence- the love of cadence.

I’m learning something rather stark,

The lonely path I’m about to embark,

But I am lucky, and excited to be,

As I have found my beloved you see.

With time I find this channeled flow,

At my side a love with inner glow.

I am never going to be fully alone,

Simply in solitude to perfect my own.

Artists are good at making themselves their own company.
Poets are constantly trying to master their craft even though it is a genre not appreciated by so many.
I like the mood of this piece. and Cadence is perfect...there is a "steady ease" to it.
It is coincidental, but I moved from Bronx, NY when I was 9, to Lockport, Illinois to a canal town.
We used to go downtown and watch them work the locks....
Very enjoyable poetry here.
