and calming touch,

yet understand

And true, people can often only truly understand their own emotions, while others will never be able to for you can never put yourself in someone elses shoes completely. (Reminds be a bit of the movie 'Freaky Friday,' that when you put yourself in someone elses position only then can you somehow understand them.)
