When Three Is One

When Three Is One

A Poem by Reagan

I give to you
The story of
A feeble mind
A deceiver
And a beast
These three are one
And one is me
Bound at the hems
Of ravenous seams
Wrapped up in skin
That hangs so obscene
Built around
A wind-up machine
That mimics a heart
Hand made by a fiend
Stitched next to a compass
To whisper each beat
But the pointer just spins
And confuses the feet
Creates such a rift
Between body and soul
Sparks an all out war
By way of ten pace draw
Tears at the hems
And rips at each seam
Dividing the girl
From the manmade machine
But the compass still spins
In a hail fire frenzy
What a wretched thief
This star crossed disease is
Knocks Tinker's daughter
From Gypsy feet
With a vagrant word
As her skeleton key
She pulls herself
To tired knees
Breathing in whispers
And self reliant pleas
Plunging a desperate hand
Into a savage sea
With tides of red
And waves of deceit
Reaching in deeper
She unwinds the machine
Tearing out gears
And silencing a fiend
All in a moment
She's back to one
Down from three
By herself
She is one
And one is me
But, in a moment
Peace recedes
And with a tick
It still it does beat
In a ravaged mind
Of thoughts and still pictures
And there are holes
Within words
In deformed gaps
Between verbs
Maddening a girl
Pulled from one
And back to three
A feeble mind
A deceiver
And a beast
These three are one
And one is me
Staked and claimed
In a wave of defeat
Her molten mind
Is a hearty meal
Of Shakespearian worm's meat
With Artisan skill
And Warlord's touch
Mimicked and mimed
By a godless right hand
Until the whisper beats
Into measured time
And poignant speech
From mechanical tick
To choking heed:

"A steady hand is all a beggar needs"
"A steady hand is all a beggar needs"
