My Lasting Testament

this life did not burst into living
til the day I met her
and though I have lived everyday since
let me leave no stronger testament:
in death's sweetest embrace
I will whisper back her name -
she's the only place I've ever known peace

Dos.
Flighty

she feels like the distance between
away & here... home & there
and like the wind -
I don't know if I've ever truly held her
yet, these bones feel her - surrounding me
waiting to lift my wings
or am I simply still falling... for her

if you can feel all that you have written when she isn’t even with you Travis, I think you have struck gold.

Tender and beautiful in your composition.

Love the line "she's the only place I've ever known peace"
I think the speaker is still falling for her. But I have been in love a couple times where I could be knocked over by a feather...no strong wind needed.
This is so good.

Yea, those are the times we fell the hardest...
Travis, your poem is a striking reflection on love and presence. I love how you capture the way someone can become the center of our world, both grounding and elusive. The imagery of wings and falling in Dos beautifully conveys the exhilaration and fragility of connection. Thoughtful, tender, and deeply moving.
