Car Loop..."Action!"

Car Loop..."Action!"

A Poem by Holly Mason

I am parked by my curb
waiting for the action
I never try to go first
the mini-vans will beat me down
There is only one lane
in front of the school
two cars will fit,barely
I sit and I wait
it will get good soon
The first few cars are here
but now is closing time
they are coming all in one line
car loop..."Action!"
I think in my head "Action!"
two lines have now formed
they have cut each other off
a third car squeezes in
a mini-van blocks two cars in
it has placed itself just right
in front of two cars
so no more can even get in
now it is starting to back up
I stand my ground at my curb
the cars behind me know I will not move
around me squeels another mini-van
it brakes quickly in back of the line
here goes another one
it is determined to be first
a small car it tries to squeeze in
but wait no...a s.u.v. has pulled a block
now none of them can move
but more are still coming
steering wheels are being smacked
frustration is in the air
and all I can think is
car loop..."Action!"
closing time has come
my daughter climbs in easily
I pull away from my curb
they are all locked in a hateful mess
yelling,screaming
every night after practice this happens
and every day their children go to school
and push and shove
get detention
then get grounded for their behavior
and all I can think is
car loop..."Action!"
as I wait patiently by my curb
