Shattered Glass

Shattered Glass

A Poem by Haunzwürthe
"

Purely fictional circumstance, although I still don't know if this comes close to how I would react...

"

Empty eyes reflect their tearless gaze
From the broken glass on the ground.
With each moment, each memory,
Another piece crashes on the sidewalk.

They're shattered as forgotten leaves
While people walk by unaware
Of the crunching beneath their heels
And too assuming to take notice.

Comfort has vanished
Laughter is distant
A gentle touch, impossible.
The gray sky offers no remorse.

Sitting on that bench, not knowing
What to do next but to watch
Each piece shatter as it falls
Tears each minute apart.

There is neither solace nor condolence
To stem the expanding vacancy
For each piece that concrete splinters
There is none to take its place.

Now those crimson wings
And its hope for those inside
Burns indifferent, without soul.
The hypocrisy, its badge.

Inevitably, the last large fragment
Explodes in a shower of
Razored shards, the realization
That they won't be coming home.
