To You

This is one of the first poems that felt worthy of keeping. I wrote it back in high school, 11 or 12 years ago so it has that teenage love feel to it when compared to some of my later stuff.

If I could paint a picture
Of any wondrous scene,
With a brush's perfect stroke
And color's brightest gleam.
Unequaled in the beauty
Of each exquisite hue,
If I could paint a picture
It would be of you.

 

If I composed a symphony
Of genius chordal blend,
With the trumpet's piercing song
And the crying violin.
Harmony perfected
With each orchestral tune,
If I composed a symphony,
It would be for you.

 

If I could write a poem
The love it would possess
Written with a yearning soul
And heartfelt tenderness
I'd pen the words with passion,
Every line in fervent truth,
If I could write a poem,
It would be to you.
