Suitcase Full of Angels

Suitcase Full of Angels

A Poem by Helen Warner
"

“We poets in our youth begin in gladness; but thereof comes in the end despondency and madness.” ~William Wordsworth

"

In the playhouse of insanity-

So pleased to see you’re back!

Plucking aphids off wallpaper roses

Or do you like the sound of bubble wrap?

But you’re okay.

Yeah everything is okay

Cuz you have a suitcase full of angels

And a magic book of dreams.

In the playhouse of insanity

You sew a patchwork quilt of stains,

Keep fallen sparrows in old shoe-boxes,

Laugh with the widow inside your brain.

Past familiar faces in wood paneling

Count the tiles on the bathroom floor.

Just keep the dust memories in dark corners-

That’s what forgetfulness is for.

But you’re okay

Yeah everything is okay

Cuz you have a suitcase full of angels

And a magic book of dreams.

Welcome to the playhouse

Where the weird is where it’s at.

I’ll recite you a bohemian love poem,

Or do you prefer some bubble wrap?
