Homeless

Homeless

A Story by Hello_Spogg

I was just a passerby, not unlike many others who had walked this road before. The woman on the corner was always there, as stationary as the stop sign across the street. She held a sign in her worn hands that read messily: Will Work For Food. So many people pass her nonchalantly everday. It was a day like any other, when I was walking down the familiar road. I looked up and caught her eyes, which were exploding with emotion. I felt the sudden urge to go out of my way, offer her a hand, let her pour her life out. Instead, i continued on my way, feeling her eyes on my back. I could almost taste her fear, her hatred - oh, how the world has turned against her. I slowed and turned around, just as she threw the flimsy peice of cardboard onto the ground and took a step back, letting the tears flow. She turned and took a few steps away and stopped. She went back to her post and sat. She knew it was the only place she had left to go to.
