Learning to Love the Girl in the Mirror

Learning to Love the Girl in the Mirror

A Poem by Sarah Flanigan

When I look in the mirror,
I don't see the same person
I saw two years ago.

Then, I looked in the mirror and I saw flaws.
I saw a fat stomach.
I saw gross, frizzy hair.
I saw a too-big nose.
I saw too-small b***s.
I saw thunder thighs and bingo wings.
I saw a mistake.

But now, I stand in front of the mirror
that I used to loathe and I see
      a beautiful human being.
I see strikingly blue eyes.
I see scars that tell a story
that I am no longer ashamed of.
I see freckles like dots of happiness
      scattered across my face.
I see long, beautifully wild hair.
I see someone who has gone through
and survived a lot in 19 years.
I see a beautiful, strong young woman
who can do anything she sets her mind to.

Agreed, that would make life so much more interesting for everyone involved.
I love it. I really need to gain the confidence that you have managed to gain, I need it. Its destroying me inside-out
