WRITERS AND POETS

A Poem by Relic

Writers and poets, come, pick up your pens,
explore any phrase that you find.
Share with us stories that we've never read,
expressed through each word in your mind.

Try to create original poems,
in meter or verse that is free.
Whether it's humor or simply absurd,
will not make a difference to me.

Memorize sentences, work to the bone,
decline any slumber or nap.
Then, when you're through,
I'll express praise to you,
If not, then it's probably crap.

Author's Note

Note to self: I changed the first line in the second stanza because of the plagiarism that has reared its ugly head the last few days. (1/23/15)

Thank you to Richard for helping me with the meter.

This was fun to read. I was feeling noble & uplifted until that last line, when I laughed out loud! I especially love the opening verse where you urge people to share what's on their minds. To me, that's the most interesting writing, when people let me see their world or their feelings (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is a wonderful statement about why writers write. Very inspiring!

lol Thanks, Cherie.
Love that ending...so many draft papers end wadded up and thrown into the waste basket as crap..we writers just have to keep on though until we get it right no doubt

Nice Work..

Thanks a bunch, Fran.
What we writers and poets go through to be heard. Working to the bone and declining slumber are all too familiar. Your poem is composed well, flows nicely and is a good read Relic.

Thanks so much, Chris. :)
Reading this, especially at the ending, I immediately thought of Silence Dogood. Probably two completely different things but if you think about it, they're both opinion based on what is good and what isn't (to them).

Anyway, this was quite the expressive write. Nice!

Hmm? Never heard of Silence Dogwood but I'll look into it. Thanks, Lavi. :)
Last line is a killer! Working to the bone, oh yes, isn't that the truth.

Sometimes I work at a poem
like a dog with a bone,
though on occasion it flows,
where 'ere my mind goes
whether metered or
free written prose.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. :))

Beccy.
