While My Pencil Gently Weeps.

A Poem by Relic

Writer's Block

I'm a writer in a room with nothing to write
as my muse slumbers soft in cryogenic flight.
My vast acute insight has suddenly transformed
into slivers of flat lines pitifully malformed.

Were a vineyard my words - I'd be sipping on wine
from a glass always filled with a sweet tasting line.
But the vines have dried up, and all turned to grey.
So until my muse wakes - I have nothing to say.

“writing about a writer's block is better than not writing at all”

My writer's block has been a constant road block. I tried making an even syllable count in each line but it didn't work out. Whatever. :)

I think this is awesome. I've had my share of nights talking to paper with little to say. Rambling takes on an art of its own though useless really haha. It's still healing in its own way. I'd suggest you hold onto the ones that seem empty. Sometimes looking back they speak louder than yourealized

Writers block never sounded more poetic to me :) The visuals here are a true beauty to absorb...tangible :)

Screw syllable counting. (I get so sick of the poetry police!) Just feel the rhythm & finesse until it feels right. I love the message & how feelings are conveyed powerfully, but I'm a little hung up on mixed metaphors here. Since the 2nd stanza is so beautifully crafted using the wine & vineyard analogy, I kinda wished that were carried thru the 1st stanza, too. But it's not a big deal. The 1st stanza feels a little angry & frustrated, whereas the 2nd stanza feels peaceful & fluid. All in all, nice way to show the way it feels.

Thanks for pointing those things out. I am grateful.
Very well done. i liked your poem. A great way to write about writer's block. A very painful condition for writers as we all know.

Wow, I'm seriously impressed by this piece. The topic you chose is so simple, and yet you still found a way to morph that idea into an intricate, impassioned and just wonderful piece of poetry. You have quite literally conjured something from nothing, a very special something, I might add! I love pieces like this. I have to say that out of all the pieces I have read on this site, this is the one I can relate the most with right now. Lately, because of school and things like that, I hardly ever have the inspiration to write anything. Heck, I seldom review anything anymore!! As a result of this, the last few pieces I have written and have posted seem to get few, if any reviews at all, and that lack of feedback, I will admit, is somewhat affecting my drive to continue my writing legacy on Writers cafe, and is even leaving unsure of whether or not any new ideas of mine are any good or not. I just seem to have completely lost my viewers, and I'm really hoping I'll eventually be able to get them back. Anyway, this work you've written is outstanding, and is most definitely going into my favorites! :)

you'd think we'd see each other, there's so many of us standing on this shelf...

This piece is completely relatable. I often feel like writing, but I can't just sit down and write. I have to be overwhelmed with thoughts, feelings and passion in order to write something heartfelt. For me, writing has to come from profound pain/pleasure. Often times, they are one in the same.

It's just hard for me to write when I plan on writing. It has to be spontaneous. That's when it's the best.

I love how your personified inspiration. Something every writer experiences, and is probably one of the most difficult hurdle to cross. Hoping the well of ideas didn't run dry. Yet, like that inspiration often strikes in a flash. I found this poetic take on writers block a piece very interesting. Nice job!

You are writing this and talking about writers' block. Really?
This surely has a subtle element of boredom maybe, but this eloquent piece is great!
Enjoyed reading it!

You are welcome.
Well, it happens to all of us. Time to play that guitar. If you're like me, the words will come when they feel like it.
