Paper fish

Paper fish

A Poem by Relic

A variation on another poem I wrote.

With metallic clouds,
darkness gathers.
From the tumbling sky,
my shoulders splatter.
Street puddles boil
and gutters clatter,
while bullfrogs assert:
What does it matter?

The vat in the sky is now released
to soggy sidewalks and mirrored streets.
And neon lights flaunt lucent streaks.
Had water been wine, could I serve a feast?

For today,
I compare myself to a corporate fish
whose shoes go squeak
and swoosh and swish
near buildings that sit
like sunken ships.

So I'll mop up my misery
and swim away
through chlorinated walkways
this wet Wednesday.

It's down to a drizzle,
though come what may,
I'm a sidewalk fish
in this city today.

So wonderful poem my dear friend. A gran story in the poetry.
"So I'll mop up memories and swim away
From the chlorinated sidewalks this wet Tuesday."
The above lines. The statement, I could write a epic tale from. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thanks very much, Carola.
Delightful - both the poem and the wonderful graphic. I felt like I was walking through the city in the rain. Great imagery!

I love this one. You created such an interesting, surreal world and a feeling of being in a city but slightly off pace and out of touch, very relatable. And of course, the image is beautiful and perfect for this piece. I feel almost honoured by your kind words on my attempt at poetry now that I see your writing :)

Was different , made me sit up and take notice +(*_*)+
I love your posted image. So interesting to look at, especially the size of that underwater monster in comparison to the distant ship. Strong visuals of a wet day on Manhattan's streets. I like, "near buildings that sit like their sunken ships". And you turning into a paper fish on a wet sidewalk. Nicely composed.

Thanks so much, Mary.
this reminds me of the book paper towns by John green. The girl in it, Margo, is this kinda rebellious girl withyhis philosophy. She hates normal lives, just to be anoter face in the crowd. She tells the boy, quinn at te top of a tower to look at the paper people in a paper town. That it's all pretty from a distance but it's only ever paper. That's one of my favorite books and I enjoyed seeing a reminder of it in this poem :)

Thanks, Sarah.
Life underwater seems a bit on the nose today;it's so humid...that cool water would be refreshing, though, and I feel a bit better just thinking about that.
Nice images, lovely feel.
