Abandoned Writers Cafe

Abandoned Writers Cafe

A Poem by Relic

Empty rooms in empty halls.

Accounts silent - long abandoned
the words bankrupt
vacant fronts of creativity
washed over; hollow; run down.

Verbs sway on rusted hinges
the strains of old poems
cross pages like tumbleweeds.

Profiles shuttered - desolate
unopened for years, collect dust
while messages to forgotten friends
go unanswered

I still visit the profiles of old friends here, some that I know seldom if ever, revisit the site. Others are departed from life itself. I revisit their comments on my posts on other sites as well. I'll find one and say, well, wasn't that nice? This is eloquently poignant. I enjoyed and I relate. F.

As do I. They are like monoliths on a partways barren land.

So many have gone over my years here... some by choice, and a few not. When it's a surprise it hurts - cause they're missed ...and when it isn't a surprise - it hurts cause they're missed anyway. Life as we live it.

Thanks very much for your thoughts, Chris.
there are patches just like in a tattered shirt, too many memories that need to be looked back on with or without regret but ultimately writers cafe will still be considered a home and perhaps in time all the prodigals will be able to realize it and return so it can never stay abandoned forever

Thanks very much for your review, Sette.
If a writer passes on to the Afterlife, their writing can live on, on the Cafe.

Yes indeed.
I have been dormant here for years.
Came back today to look around.
Thanks for the WOW!

Coincidence or karma?

Synchronicity. :)
I tend to come and go a lot, as you know.
I think this place for some is just a brief stop and for others a place to come back to when we need to unload. There are so few that are constant and it's reassuring that they are here when we come back.
These online communities are tough to navigate at times and people get attached to other people so their vacancy is missed. Frieda for example. I still hear about how she is missed because she was such a huge presence here.

I think most of us can relate to this! I know I sure can! It's great to see you back! 😊

Thanks for saying that, Donna. :)
Fantastic perspective amidst a sad truth that lends itself here. This is why I chose to decimate my "friends" roster here on WritersCafe and hopefully start over. Time will tell.

Thanks very much for taking the time to read and review, Daniel.
*Sigh* such is the reality of social media accounts. Folks evolve and move on from place to place. Thus, I ask you, how many places have you created a profile and posted a piece or two, then abandoned your spot at their table--your chair dusty and littered with old manuscripts long forgotten?

I like this poem. Should it be "hollow" in line 4?
