My posting phenomenon.

It's been happening to me since I first joined Writers Cafe. I write a poem or story, I go over it, it sounds fine, so I post. 

Then it happens. 

Like an inner voice in my head, I hear it...hey look, I see something that sounds wrong. Yeah, and there's something else too......and something else.... 

As though tricked by mental blindness, I start fixing lines, feeling anxious. Should I delete the poem/story and start again? But six or seven people have seen it. Now what? 

One day, I revised a poem 16 or 17 times AFTER it had been posted. I felt like exploding. This is a constant problem for me. 

Am I a perfectionist?

Or is there something more disturbing going on? 

Is it possible there's a disquieting spirit inside me saying......You did it again didn't you, you posted before you should have, now I'll screw you up. HAHA, SUFFER POET RELIC, SUFFEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRR. "You call yourself a writer? Pick up a crayon instead, you're better off. hahahaha." (throws down the mic and walks away). 

But here's the thing. Why then does it look okay before posting? 

Is it possible there was another Relic somewhere on the internet before me and his spirit is here to haunt me? Hmm? I don't know. But I do know one thing. When I posted this, I felt like someone was watching me. Waiting...looking over my shoulder. Blurring my eyesight somehow

Oh I can relate to that!
I think that the problem may be that we get the inspiration from the intuitive side of our brain (the right side largely) and are a bit 'blinded' by our creation. That 'disquieting spirit' in you may be the more logical side of the brain (manly left hand side) telling you to do some critical editing. In should, of course, be very constructive, helping to make a well structured and fine-tuned poem. If I was you I would commandeer that 'Scoundrel, Heathen, Rascal, Craphead', and make him work for you.

When an idea strikes and we find some suitable words to dress it, we get all excited about posting it as quickly as possible. Then come the doubts, because there is such an infinite store of words to chose from, one more beautiful and suitable than the next. So it goes on...Till another idea strikes. Appreciated so much!

I was drilled into believing that crafting is a major part of the writer's skill set, not that I do it as much as I should. I blame the internet where we all exist only so long as we keep posting. But Leslie Philibert is a great example of someone who crafts and posts infrequently amazing poetry. Nice discussion topic sir.

Seems up to snuff, to me.
The old-timers--and I've known more than a few--counseled never to post (or submit) your work the same day it's written. Apparently, they believed you often "read" what's still in your mind, not what ended up on paper.
At any rate, "My posting phenomenon" is smartly conveyed and represents something most writers have, unfortunately, often experienced.
