Titanic--Nearer My God.

Titanic--Nearer My God.

A Poem by Relic

Their ghostly forms respire now
With swells that churn the sea.
Relieved from woe - and peril's throe -
Nearer my God to thee.

And even though the forward bow
Is tarnished from time's rust,
A hymn still drifts the ocean glaze -
Where angels spoke with Godly praise:

"Brother, sister, where art thou,
Among the ship's debris?"
"In eternal peace" - they whisper -
"Nearer my God to thee."

Relic, that was very beautiful.

It reads with the subconscious acknowledgement of those hours of horror,
Those poor souls

And finally peace everlasting

Thank you for the comment, Eternity. :)
I wrote a poem about this doomed ship. It has always held a special fascination for me. I've read extensively about it and watched just about every documentary. There is a book about the band that played that final, haunting hymn. Unfortunately, none of them survived. Thank you for the images you created here. I want to go back and read that book again!

Thanks very much for your comment, Zoe.
Your poem painted a disturbing image in my mind about the current state of the world as being rather like a sinking ship, but people are at various stages of fomenting & denial, taking a stroll around the deck with big waves sloshing forth, we see some praying with religious fervor while others are ranting about who's at fault. Then there's me hanging out in the wilderness where there are so few waves, it feels like none of this is really happening! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Thanks for reading, Carola.
Nearer my God to thee
Do I draw nigh
Where the heights cease
And the depths shall not dare reach

Your writing is so very beautiful

Thank you, Lyn.
Whenever I think of tragedies like this, I want to ask God only one question: why? Why did You think any of this was a good idea? A haunting song for an equally haunting event.

I guess somewhere way back when, God promised he would never talk. Thanks.
this moves me, just as the story of the Titanic has...and the movie as well...such sorrow and bravery at the same time...as those poor souls vanished beneath the cold waves....just because a ship's owner had something to prove.
well done, Tim,
j.
