I got the idea from Christine Anne Shaw's poem "Destruction." I'd thought about taking some old unfinished poems and giving them away but I lost them when my last laptop went belly-up.

wow...yes, we consider them our children...and this metaphor works so well...the premature poem, not ready to come out, but does...and needs special treatment to keep it alive.

I loved.... the way you expressed an unfinished poem. I could just picture this laying on a table. In some dusty room with the sun beaming across the room onto that unfinished poem from an open window.
"you respond to a challenge instead of bracing for a catastrophe"
"you see the gold underneath the dragon
instead of shrinking from the all too real challenge of the dragon"
"there is no... 'please, someone else take care of it'"
I think it was a Canadian named Peterson who said those things.

I've never heard that before, Interesting. Thanks for reading.
Bearing small weight yet a much bigger conscience in the poet's mind. Those unattended lines do come back to haunt us at times.
I like the idea of poems up for adoption. It made me think of times I've collaborated with some poets around here where they mostly came up with the idea and the starting verses and I continued with the piece... somehow, I feel I lost my voice in those collaborative pieces so I'm not sure if another poet can do justice with our words; best left as it is.
Brilliant write, Tim.

I collaborated once, it came out okay, but I agree, our words are best left to us. Thanks very much,.. read moreI collaborated once, it came out okay, but I agree, our words are best left to us. Thanks very much, Dr.
What a generous and thoughtful poet you are. I would love to adopt your unfinished works ... but I might not bring them up as brilliantly as you would, still I appreciate your wonderful gesture. Your poem expresses all the gentleness of a loving parent toward its offspring. Your tenderness is heartwarming Tim.

It's always a pleasure of mine reading your poems, Tim.
What a clever read, Tim! I love the mention of the paper crib, "an infant grasping for the finger of its future". Such a diverse piece...a diamond in the rough!
Thank you for the mention Relic. This is such a great idea. Unfinished poems for adoption. Words that need to be nurtured and cared for by an adoptive parent who will endeavour to see that child grow and develop. Very original thinking. I like the end results.
