Thinking about closing your account?

A Story by Relic

Thinking about closing your account?
Don't even try it.

I hold the record for opening and closing my account on this site more than anyone. (with the exception of one other person).
I am the king. And as the king I reign as the close account button thing king.

* Thinking about giving up? Cast away those thoughts to the wind.
I hold that record as well. Yet, I always come back, my long red cape dragging behind and my crown high on my head.

* Are you under the impression your writing is no good anymore?
Haha, I scoff at your joke with a zesty smile and a dab of cackle.
My pen has been rusting since 1972.
Well, maybe not that long...but...never mind.

The point is there are people among us who have a natural talent for writing and will have lots of reviews on a regular basis. But they also do a lot of zesty reviews that leave the writer with a tingly feeling that lasts the rest of the minute.

On the other hand, many don't care about popularity or reviews. They only post just to post. (or...something like that). :/

I'm stuck here in the Twilight Zone. But as for you, ask yourself why you like to write. Is it to get lots of reviews, to be popular, or to be liked? You may be writing for the wrong reason. People write because they love it. It's okay to go off the track. I've been off a long time. But someday I may get a groove back. Maybe you will too.

So don't close your account like me. Go away awhile and see if you want to come back. If you do, you may love writing. If you don't, perhaps you've discovered something better like others have.

But funny enough. I've seen people peeking back in that have been away a long time. Are they wondering?

The choice is yours. But remember, the luster of my crown could blind you.

Mate... This hit home...

"But they also do a lot of zesty reviews that leave the writer with a tingly feeling that lasts the rest of the minute."

I feel on sites like this... Tis' not much more than a "who can work on making people like them more", type scenario. In that being the case... I feel a lot of writers who are truly talented, and A LOT of truly amazing verse... Get swept under a rug, and its almost criminal how often it happens... Whether you write for "X" "Y" or "Z" reason... The truth of the matter is, that unless you actually write to... WRITE... You could be in for quite the ride... Placing your self-view/worth upon the comments and approval of others is never a good idea... You inspire me, mate... I dare not peek at your crown... I value my sanity...

This a timely write, Relic.

I will be closing again myself soon. Writing is something that should be enjoyed and always come naturally. Such a site as this is a handy platform for gauging our work in the eyes of others and for learning to improve ourselves in the craft. There does come a time when it does lose its purpose and we have to spread our wings further to reach greater heights. For me that is one of the reasons i will be closing. Permanently? Who knows. For as you wrote, we all come peeping back when the thrill or the inspiration strikes us. In terms of myself though, I am pretty sure your crown is safe.

Your writes have always delved towards educating the writer in the ways of the cafe and this one does the same. With your crown and throne, the cafe kingdom remains in safe hands. All the best with your work.

You are already missed, Doodley.

I love that it inspires them
or even help in their struggles
and healing as they maybe
going through something I
once did.

So I write for therapy
release healing and I love
writing it owns my heart
and it helps me stay sane
and escape,

Everyday stress
drama and pain
in life.

And if they review
but if they don't
that's fine also.

Nice story BTW I hope
it helps ones needing
a push in the right direction.

You're welcome my friend
I enjoyed reading it 👍
I think you just need to write because you want to. I don't care about views and reviews -- this place is so fickle you have post and repost and advertise -- blech. You want to read, read. Popularity has its pitfalls. My old name drew too much attention. I like the quiet corner.:)

Thanks for your thoughts, Lyn.
Haha what a wry write! I am sorry Relic for offending you when you offered me solid advice. Retrospection can be a humbler.

Thank you, Aurora.
I've never closed my account before, but I know some people do on a regular basis. It's their prerogative to do so, I guess. I'm here pretty regularly, and keep my nose out of whatever drama may be brewing, and believe me, it has served me well in the ten years I've been here. I love writing poetry and this place suits me well with the friendships I've been fortunate enough to make along the way. That's the plus side for me, the rapport of other poets that turn into friends. Being acknowledged as a "top writer" or "top reviewer" makes it feel like a popularity contest, and it doesn't bother me anymore...it used to, but then I started comparing myself to other writer's, and I didn't like how the weight of that made me feel. I even emailed the moderator here, asking exactly how one is chosen to receive such a recognition. But as always, he never answered...and since then, the privilege has never been one bestowed upon myself. But that's the drama I have learned to avoid. Hey, I live in California...and life IS a beach! Take care, Tim...and thanks for being such a good friend. I'll keep my sunglasses on, so not to be blinded by the luster of your crown!
