Two separate trains

Two separate trains

A Poem by Relic

Long days at work often lead to daydreaming ~ do they not?

From two separate motionless trains
their eyes met.

From two separate departing trains
their eyes embraced.

On two separate moving trains
they dreamed of a stranger
in their arms.

Daydreaming? I think we all appreciate this sometimes.
I liked this, just imagine how powerful our eyes are, we can say so much with one glance,, silent but powerful.
Nice write. thanks for sharing.

You're welcome 😊
The longing, the loneliness, the hunger for touch and humanity are well conveyed.

Hi Tim. this poem is wonderfully concise. I love how you capture the fleeting, almost cinematic connection between two strangers, using the movement of the trains to mirror the tension between distance and intimacy. The repetition of ‘separate trains’ emphasizes both longing and possibility, and the final line leaves a sweet, lingering sense of what might have been. It is elegant in its simplicity.

Thank you, Romaj.
It was nice to revisit this poem after five years Tim. You captured a moment of fantasy beautifully. Trains passing in the station. Visually beautiful.

This could represent a perfect picture of my daily life. Trains, trains and more trains…..and the many strangers that share the rides. It’s fair to say that stolen glances happen in astounding numbers in such daily journeys. You can sense the eyes on you sometimes and usually when your own eyes are fixated on someone else. It’s when those trains start to roll that any moments of fantasy or possibility disappear into smoke.
Such a relatable image for me and yes, I may be classified as being guilty of engaging in such incidences of wandering eyes!

I appreciate your thoughts, mou. Thank you.
Two separate trains have derailed in Ohio in the last month. I've never been on a train except an old steam locomotive as a kid. I used to think they were sort of romantic. I enjoyed this. Who knows what fantasies are born in railways stations and airports? It's an interesting question. Well done.

It's funny how the mind travels. We can often hear the glances that we think are silent.

I really like this.
