A Poem by Relic

She lives at the end of a dirt road. It lies down the middle of a thick carpet of grass and lots of trees.

Her family's backyard is spacious, with a pool we both enjoy on hot summer days.

We're both sixteen.

She says she loves me.

My dad once said the same before he died.
Now, life has a tendency to paint those words with pain when I hear them.
It reminds me that nothing is forever, and people in our lives can disappear and become nothing but memories.

The sun will always see me.

But someday, her yard, her pool, and that dirt road may not.

And she, as real and as soft as she is, may one day become a memory too.

Yes indeed. At the time it feels like an unbreakable bond that makes a childhood friend a friend, but then before you know it decades pass and the seldom thought creeps into your mind and are transported back to happier times, before wondering how that bond dissipated over time.
Worse is when you hear of a tragic end and feel that guilt you feel when a friend for life expires without you even knowing.
It leaves you feeling that the only thing guaranteed in life is entropy.. which I must admit and apologise for being a day late in reviewing, because that certainly feels like a Mondsy thought to me! 😀

Thanks very much for the comment, Lorry. I can relate to your comment very well.
First love is so powerful. Though I think for me, it is always like the first time. But they have so much power over us. Every moment is a spiritual moment. Loved the road imagery and looking at the house from afar.

Thank you, Thomas. :)
I find that things always seem to be rosier in the past. The summers were always hotter and the grass greener. I hope my memory doesn’t fade with age. There’s alot of grey about these days. A nostalgic write.

You are welcome Tim. Take care.
Things we wouldn't have noticed in youth tell us about loss as the sun dips lower. How to let go is a lesson all must learn or suffer.

The maturity and wisdom that come from aging are pluses. Thanks, John.
