Cumulus People

Cumulus People

A Poem by Relic

Their heads are in the clouds.

They seem to float
with eyes content
staring into cell phone screens,
soaking up dopamine
like hummingbirds
hovering above nectar.

I watch them,
witness them
on streets,
benches,
trains.

Their moods are contemplative
as they wander
from here to there.

Wandering down streets,
meandering
above the ground.

They roam like clouds,
seemingly unaware
of buildings,
of traffic,
until they’ve slipped by
out of sight,
replaced
by other clouds.

Hii Relic!! Ahhhh a fellow people watcher. I myself love to learn and understand everyone I meet and also think about the "cumulous people." I can understand having my head in the clouds if I'm super focused on something like a poem I'm working on. But what a wonderful written poem about the metaphor "head in the clouds" is what I'm gathering this was inspired from. Truly artistic and such an enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring poem! !🤗🤗🤗

Thank you for the comment, Fabian.

what is it about clouds anyway, other than their obvious beauty eh' .. most of the time they are ether here or the air .. what a delightful 21st century musing you have both poemed and postulated .. nice one Relic :)

hahahahah, that's always a possibility, John. Thanks.
In the clouds is a very creative way to express people getting sucked in by their phones. Their heads in the cloud of technology.

My mind is often in the cloud but not with my phone but rather thoughts ideas and fiery memories or daydreams.

:)))))))))
How true is that! Wonder what people used to do when they were free of cell phones and politics and media intervention on and into their lives! That shattering the all around them: colours, creatures, plants, scents and selves but... nothing else matters. Those clouds create poetry of their own, altering what they see and replacing gently - at times, or, at other times, crashing the sky apart.

Many thanks for writing this poem. I love clouds. In my next life, ' going to be one!

Thank you so much for your comment, emma. :)
People compared to clouds, like lifeless replaceable drones.
We forget sometimes that those faceless people in the crowd, or online, are people who feel things too. Thought provoking write

Thank you, Thomas. Much appreciated.
someday they will become more like cirrus clouds...all broken up and spreading like signals on their cell phones.

Timely for the current state of communication and interaction.
