The question has been put forth due to the site's failing health that a Writers Cafe monthly fee would help benefit the site as long as that fee is reasonable. The writer's online page is stuck, there are too many ads, a spate of spam is making its rounds through private messages and so on.
-
Charlie (the owner and Mod) is rarely seen. Would it benefit WC to offer a fee to improve what many consider to be the best online writers site?
-
Would you pay a fee to be here? Do you trust the owner? Is a donation page better?
I WOULD NEVER (AGAIN) INVEST MY MONEY IF IT IS NOT DEPENDABLE.
IT TOOK YEARS BEFORE I FINALLY FOUND OUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING.
I PAID TO BE A MEMBER AT WRITING.COM AND HE STILL DELETES ME IF I TRY TO GO BACK.
WHY? BECAUSE I AM HONEST.
HE IS A DIAGNOSED SCHIZOPHRENIC WHO ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF. I MET HIM ONLINE APPROX YEAR 2000.
HIS REAL NAME IS TONY GILBERT AKA SPIRITUAL DAWNING AKA WHOEVER HE WANTS TO BE.
JUST LAST NIGHT, I REJOINED WDC AS BUTTERYFINGER AKA ETERNITY AND HE PROPOSED TO LET ME GIVE HIM ORAL S*X. (SEXTING)
I DECLINED, AND WITHIN THE HOUR MY NEW ACCOUNT WAS DELETED.
I would be happy to pay a subscription to see the site monitored and improved , but like Jacob, would want to see some positive input before parting with cash. This is my preferred site, but the technical issues here are frankly irritating.
..............
PSS. "IF" The StoryMaster is Charlie, he takes possession of abandoned accounts. He has all their info to use. He can become anybody at any time.

Thanks for this enlightening review. Much appreciated.
I was on a previous site that crashed and took my saved poems with it. I would gladly pay a fee to insure W/C's survival. I've met some fine people here.
I understand the concerns everyone’s raising about the current state of Writers Café. But I joined — and grew to love — this site because it’s a free platform for writers. These days, it feels like almost every site is asking for money, and it’s just not realistic to keep up with all those fees month after month.
It’s not that I can’t pay — I can. But the real question is: where do we draw the line? If every site starts charging, how are we supposed to support them all? Platforms like Writers Café give us a space to write, share, and enjoy without worrying about costs. That’s something worth holding on to.

Thanks for your input, Neha. It's much appreciated.
I'd be willing to pay a fee, but we would need Charlie to be on board with the issues that urgently need to be addressed. I would hate to lose this venue and the friendships I've made through the years, but what guarantee would we have that our full compliance and efforts would be enough? Can we manage this site on our own, without him? Is that a possibility? Hey, you've got my utmost attention. I'm in!
