Fear Of An Empty Room

Fear Of An Empty Room

A Poem by Poetic Shorty

I fear everyone I like, likes someone more than they do me
Not out of hate, but an inability to relate
They try to comfort me, say my fears are irrational
And yet they are so very probable

Humans, addicted to social interaction
They take a quick hit of me
Then move on to the main attraction
I’m just not enough I guess
I don’t give them what they need
Maybe they’re too used to the dopamine
From their Tik Tok feed

Wait, what’s that? Someone invited me!
Quickly, I find something to wear
Excited to be proven wrong in my despair
The people say hello, only half heartedly
That’s the moment I realize
Everywhere I go, situation regardless
An empty room, full of people

If you think well enough about yourself, the hell with the rest of them.
