I think this one is a personal perception... in my own experiences, people have a variety of personal responses to their own mortality and those also depended on the length of time they had immediately before finding out or having to face the issue.

The death I experienced was spiritual rather than physical. I had my finger on the self-destruct button for 30 years without truly knowing or understanding.
The death led to life and eternal bliss.

I have heard it said you have not lived until you have almost died. This work seems to reflect that philosophy. We tend to forget the greater truths in the face of adverse circumstances. If we're lucky, they remind us of them. Well done.
