not in love...

I’ve known them on nodding terms
for 20 years or so 
Whenever I see them they are together
or so I thought
Then a few weeks ago he was alone 
and asked me how I was
I asked him how he would expect a man
who's in love to be
What? 
I said, how would you expect a man who's in love to feel?
He told me he didn’t know so I asked if he’d ever been in love
and he said that he hadn’t
I still see them occasionally seemingly together
not in love…
