they can end so suddenly

never leave a loved one

under a dark old thunder cloud

in case the rain tastes like tears.

Just hold the one you love

like you’ll never let them go

even though letting go is something

everyone must face some day.

Everybody is one step from being

brought to their knees and tasting salt.

This started off as an uplifting over the first four lines of the free flowing freeverse in particular but it somehow ended on a sour downbeat note.
