Drifting awayA Poem by MitchNephetsThis is about a comatose individual who awakens from their seeming everlasting sleep.Drifting away When time marches resolutely onwards At a constant pace, second by second Nothing can make it go backwards The call of death always beckoned You never really see it coming But eventually everyone gets old You do not see the signs of ageing Only realizing when you go ice-cold Lying there, slowly drifting away Stumbling down the tunnel to light Suddenly something is leading you astray We know you will not give up without a fight And then you come flooding back Your long life lovingly rekindled For all the qualities that you lack Our love makes it equalled
